A report last week mentioned:
"British mortgage lender Abbey National apologised today to
customers after debiting their mortgage payments twice this month.
The fault is being blamed on the Royal Bank of Scotland's automated
clearing system, which gave the order to take payments from a small
number of Abbey National customers...All customers who have been
affected are protected by the terms of the Direct Debit Guarantee...It
means that if a debit is ever taken in error, the customer is entitled
to an immediate refund."
Good news and well done to the Abbey on that one; I would be interested
to know how long it was before they actually noted this error! I
note from the number of comments so far that there are mixed feelings
about the Abbey National and, from one or two in particular, that
not everything is cleared up as quickly as this seems to be. Please,
write in and let us know what you feel about the level of service
and speed of reaction to our problems.
